Guidance for State and County Stay-at-Home Order (Sacramento County Residents)

We know that the current California Stay-at-Home order and COVID-19 is affecting many of our tenants and wish to help you learn about some of the federal, state and local resources available to provide help.

Employer Paid Sick Leave

Under federal emergency legislation, if you cannot go to work or telecommute, your employer may be required to pay you for up to two (2) weeks paid sick leave.  Coverage is up to ten (10) days lost work (80 hours if you usually work full-time or two (2) weeks average weekly pay, if you work part- time.)  Contact your employer.

Emergency legislation may also provide benefits in other situations. More guidance may be found at several web sites, including at www.irs.gov.

Unemployment Benefits

If you were laid off, had hours reduced, or terminated from employment, you may qualify for unemployment benefits. You may apply for unemployment benefits on-line at https://www.edd.ca.gov/unemployment/UI_Online_File_a_Claim.htm

Worker’s Compensation

You may qualify to file a disability insurance (DI) claim if you are unable to work due to being exposed to Covid-19 (medically certified); alternatively, you may request paid family leave (PFL) if you must leave work in order to care for an ill or quarantined family member with Covid-19 (medically certified).  For more guidance on these benefits, you may go to https://www.edd.ca.gov/about_edd/coronavirus-2019.htm.

CalFresh Benefits

CalFresh (SNAP) benefits provide up to $192 per month or $353 per household to purchase food. If you qualify, you may complete an application at the following site:  https://www.getcalfresh.org/?source=dssfood. For more information, you may go either to https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/calfresh or to the site at https://ha.saccounty.net/benefits/Pages/default.aspx#cf.  While Sacramento County DHA offices are currently closed to public entry (March 18, 2020); you may call (916) 874-3100 to speak with someone.  For submissions, you may either use drop boxes outside your local office, submit documents online through https://www.mybenefitscalwin.org/, or mail the application to:  P.O. Box 487, Sacramento, CA, 95812.

Other Assistance

Sacramento DHA offers several excellent assistance programs, without any application fee.  Go to https://ha.saccounty.net/benefits/Pages/default.aspx#ga  to learn more, including CAPI, health insurance, General Assistance and other programs.
